Old School Gardens

What I like to call Old School Gardens are just a basic garden plot on your property. I have one as you can see above that I use for all my root vegetables like, Potatoes, Onions, Carrots and Beets.

You can grow all your other Veggies in this kind of garden as well.

This is the easiest kind of garden you can have. All you have to do is till it and add composting to it once a year and plant and water it. You do want to make sure you put it in the right area though. You need a space that has a lot of sunlight and is out of the wind.

Just make sure you keep up on weeding so that the weeds don’t overtake your veggies.

Raised Gardening Beds

Raised Gardening Beds are great for all your leafy veggies. i have all my leafy in raised beds and I personally find that the water retention is better and they just plain like it in the beds versus the old school way better.

Compost Pile

Composting is one of the best benefits from growing your own food and raising your own animals. If you go to the store to buy chicken compost or anyother kind of compost its like $9.00 a bag. You can make your own even Better compost for free.

It will also save you money by not having to buy and not having so much garbage outtake.

Raising Chickens

Ever had a actual fresh egg? Not the farm fresh at the grocery store but truly fresh?

You will be amazed at the difference in taste and won’t ever want to eat store bought again.

Raising chickens can save you and make you a bunch of money.

Not only do you no longer have to buy eggs at the store, but you can also use them as meat, their bedding and poop are great fertilizers. If you have left over eggs you can sell them. there are tons of people out there looking for farm fresh eggs. If you have a rooster and your chicks go broody and have babies you can sell them as well.

Raising Geese and Ducks

Besides the Chickens you have decided to get or maybe you want something besides Chickens. You could always raise Ducks and Geese instaed.

I have all three breeds on my farm just because I love them all lol.

Duck eggs taste just as good as chicken and they are great especially for baking. They make everything light and fluffy.

I have my geese for protection for my other birds. They make great watchdogs for your flock. You just need to raise them in your bird flocks so they bond with them and they will be very protective. They will always let you know when something is not right.

I have a whole page on Raising Ducks and geese Check it out for a ton of info and tips.
